PILATES

Pilates is a form of exercise that works on balancing and controlling movement.

It targets the body's deep postural muscles and aims to balance them with those that perform movement.  Using controlled movements on good core stability improves posture, muscle tone, and body awareness. The Pilates taught at Augré Physiotherapy is based on the methods and teachings of Joseph Pilates, combined with our teachers’ added experience and knowledge.

Why do Physio Pilates and why come to us?

People come to Pilates to enhance their fitness routine and as a rehabilitative exercise for movement problems that have arisen or been caused by poor posture, injury and pain. The core muscles focused on in training are particularly important for the strength and stability of the back. In the majority of cases, following an acute episode of back pain, the function of these muscles is inhibited. Research has shown that if these muscles are not retrained, reoccurring back pain is as high as 80%.

Who Attends Physio Pilates

Correctly taught Pilates is suitable for all levels of fitness, ability and age.

Which class is suitable for me?

All new clients enrolling on our 6-week course will attend a half-hour thorough assessment of their core stability. Following this, they can participate in either the beginners', intermediate, or advanced course. If you are new to Pilates, the beginner's class will guide you through learning the principles of Pilates and the basic core exercises. If you have done Pilates before and are familiar with the principal techniques, you may be ready to start at an intermediate or advanced level, depending on your experience. This will be determined and fully discussed at your initial assessment.
