Michael Quaye is originally from Cheshire. He studied medicine at St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine, graduating in 2006. He received the British Orthopaedic Research Society Student Award in 2006.

During his medical training, Mr. Quaye undertook a degree in Materials Engineering from the renowned Materials Science department of Queen Mary, University of London, obtaining 1st class honours and the Clinical Materials Prize in 2005.

After graduation, Mr Quaye worked in Chelmsford and London before taking up an Orthopaedic training post in Wessex deanery, winning the Gauvain Society Research Prize in 2017.

Following his Orthopaedic surgical training, Mr Quaye undertook advanced fellowship training in all areas of specific clinical interest, including fellowships at Southampton University Hospital, Oxford Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Groote Schuur in Cape Town and Frimley Park Hospital.

Mr. Quaye has written peer-reviewed articles as well as a book chapter on spinal biomaterials. He has presented his work at both national and international conferences.

Mr Quaye has an exclusively adult NHS practice. His main areas of interest are the degenerative spine, with and without scoliosis deformity, sports injury of the spine, and spinal tumours.

As an orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Quaye has a very good understanding of problems arising from other joints such as the hip, knee, or shoulder and how these can be confused with, as well as interactions with, spinal problems. He has excellent working relationships with other top surgeons across the region should onward referral be required.

Mr Quaye aims to leave all patients with a detailed understanding of their problems and a plan to get them on the road to recovery. He believes life should be enjoyed and recognises the impact spinal problems can have.

Growing up, Mr Quaye loved sports of all kinds, especially rugby, cricket and golf. After medical school, rugby injuries proved a significant distraction to surgical training, but he continued to play cricket in the Essex leagues as a junior doctor. Outside of medicine now, Mr Quaye is married with two lovely children. He loves being outdoors, especially fly fishing on Hampshire’s beautiful chalk streams.
